A long-term ministry of the Oakland diocese, Catholics@Work, will begin its 17th year on Tuesday, Sept. 12 with a speaker who regained control of her life after a very difficult beginning and  now operates a ministry for homeless parents and their children.

Jess Echeverry, who was homeless herself, will tell the story of her climb from the depths that led her to sere people most in need.

Echeverry was pregnant at 16, homeless living on the streets. Eventually she regained control of her life, became a Catholic and married. Her husband recently was ordained a permanent deacon.

Personally knowing the challenges of street life Echeverry began searching out homeless families, bringing them food, shoes--even socks and foot cream for perennially sore feet--plus special help for the children. The on-going ministry is now called Sore Feet Saviors

Catholics@Work programs, on the second Tuesday, are open to all. Click on the Calendar of Events on the left to see upcoming and past speakers.
